Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Department Head, the Guidance Counselor promotes and helps develop students’ life skills, coping skills, and academic skills that will benefit students beyond their school experience and into their adult lives. He/she is responsible to utilize a variety of methods and approaches to help students develop these skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, designs, and implements the departmental guidance programs and services.
  • Prepares and submits budget proposals for the Guidance Office.
  • Conducts individual or group counselling with students; utilizes appropriate counselling methods such as person-centered approach, solution-focused, expressive counselling techniques and others.
  • Collaborates with teachers in order to address individual students with specific needs; works closely with them in planning and implementing appropriate intervention based on the developmental needs of the students.
  • Follows-up progress of student/s referred by the teachers and other school personnel.
  • Makes referrals when necessary to outside resources for student and /or family support; and creates awareness of the outside counselling resources to include mental health professionals, social service agencies, and other community resources that focus on families and children.
  • Liaises between the school and outside counselling resources in working on student problems; arranges case conferences involving teachers, parents, department heads and outside counselling resources, when needed.
  • Designs, implements and supervises student peer support program.
  • Interprets psychological test results to students, parents/guardians and teachers.
  • Conducts consultation with parents and teachers regarding the attitude and behavioural aspects of the students.
  • Prepares homeroom modules and supervises homeroom classes; conducts quarterly meetings with homeroom advisers; provides training to homeroom advisers.
  • Provides seminars-workshops or trainings on parenting, personality development, study habits, anti-bullying and other psycho-educational concerns for parents and students.
  • Implements career guidance and placement for students.
  • Participates in the initial interview of new applicants.
  • Consolidates data; conducts and produces psycho-educational research.
  • Attends professional development seminars.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of school functions such as family day, socialization, solidarity ball, task force enrolment and other academic activities.
  • Maintains complete, accurate and up-to-date students’ guidance records.
  • Performs other related tasks.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Roman Catholic
  • Has completed a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling.
  • Has acquired the required Licensed for Guidance Counselors.
  • Possesses superior judgement, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Possesses exemplary interviewing and presentation skills for establishing rapport with students.
  • Strong ethics and high level of personal and professional integrity
  • Is proficient in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
